"Some Days"

Some days, I long to write. My mind yearns to sit with pen clenched in fingers as I translate all the visions in my head into images spilling across the page. Or I spend endless hours with my laptop, creating new worlds peopled by my limitless imagination. I focus on a single meaning and play with a multitude of words until I find just the right combination of syllable. I fill page after page with my heart and soul, and still find more to say. I feel free. I feel young. I feel weightless. I am possibilities.
Some days, I long to sing. I throw back my head and belt out a song with rapturous abandon. I scale through octaves like a diva. My voice becomes a mockingbird that imitates any singer my spirit desires. I croon lullabies and wail the blues. I feel powerful. I feel bold. I feel ecstasy. I am possibilities.

Belly Dancer by David Chapman
Some days, I long to dance. I pirouette across the kitchen as I head out the door. I step-shuffle-step-step to the car. I shimmy as I drive to the store. In the parking lot, I perform perfect fan kicks over the grocery cart before I belly dance down the aisles. I feel daring. I feel vivacious. I feel sexy. I am possibilities!

"A Song in My Head"

I woke up this morning singing a Beatle’s tune. Sometimes, and I don’t know why, a song plays in my head. We’ve all had it happen. A little ditty will float into our consciousness and linger there. Sometimes, it plays through once and disappears as quickly as it appeared. Other times, it accompanies us throughout our day, a theme to our emotional state.

Today, “I’ll Follow the Sun” lilts in and out of my thoughts. I’m including the lyrics for those of you who may not know the tune. I remember singing this song every night as I rocked my son to sleep. I always sang him “sun” songs like “You Are My Sunshine,” and “Sunshine on My Shoulders” along with this Lennon and McCartney piece. My repertoire included other pieces like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man” from Showboat.
Anyway, I hope my theme song from this morning plays all day long, since it’s a song I associate with a small head resting on my shoulder as I rock and sing.

“I’ll Follow the Sun”

Writer: LENNON, JOHN WINSTON / MCCARTNEY, PAUL JAMES

One day, you'll look
To see I've gone
But tomorrow may rain, so
I'll follow the sun
One day, you'll know
I was the one
But tomorrow may rain, so
I'll follow the sun
And now the time has come
And so, my love, I must go
And though I lose a friend
In the end you will know
Oh-oh-oh
One day, you'll find
That I have gone
But tomorrow may rain, so
I'll follow the sun

And now the time has come
And so, my love, I must go
And though I lose a friend
In the end you will know
Oh-oh-oh
One day, you'll find
That I have gone
But tomorrow may rain, so
I'll follow the sun

Rain on the Rooftop"

Rain on the rooftop, a Texas lullaby
Thunder a distant heartbeat, wind a crooning sigh
Watch the windows weep as lightning cuts the sky
Clouds roll and tumble, carry raindrops on a ride
Trees cleanse their dusty leaves—shake off Summer’s dry
Droplets form to puddles, and rivers start to fly
Mother Earth’s cracked face smiles and laughs in reply
To rain on the rooftop, a Texas lullaby
