My
front yard currently sprouts randomly planted sunflowers—the result of birds
and squirrels indulging daily at my seed bowl. The birds range from white-wing doves
to finches to grackles to cardinals. Snapping a picture of them means I lurk
near the feeder, motionless and patient. They always wait until I’m at a safe distance before venturing into the container.
Getting a shot becomes a challenge of having my camera handy and gathering a stillness
often difficult for me to don. Our squirrels, bolder and hungrier, gaze
directly into the camera. Their daredevil attitude translates into more
pictures of them diving into the dish.
